Deaconesses duties vary, but responsibilities generally include such tasks as assisting with church ordinances, assisting the pastor and deacons in attending to members and non-members, ministering to the needy, maintaining items for the Lord’s Supper and baptism, and sometimes mentoring female church members. Members of this ministry are generally selected by the lead pastor.
